Star of the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George awarded to Sir Edmund Barton
The Star of the Knight Grand Cross is composed of seven silver rays with a small gold ray between them and the cross of St George superimposed over these. At its centre is a representation of the Archangel St Michael with sword in hand encountering Satan. The central disc is surrounded by a blue circle inscribed with the motto AUSPICIUM MELIORIS AEVI (‘Token of a better age’).
